Member Event –Not Just For Kids Day Sponsored by The Energy Cooperative: The Energy Cooperative will host its fifth annual Kids Day event and it’s not just for kids anymore! Join us on Sunday, June 13th from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. at The Works (55 South First Street) in Downtown Newark. There will be expanded activities for ALL ages along with our usual pony rides, a kids craft, bouncy castles, face painting, entertainment, refreshments, door prizes and full access to The Works. This event is free for members of The Energy Cooperative and their children and grandchildren, but please clip the Kids Day ticket found in your May/June issue of The Energy Cooperative’s member newsletter for admission. Please park in the parking garage located caddy-corner from The Works on South 2nd Street or in the Job and Family Services' parking lot located south of The Works on Scheidler Street.

Energy Sources Tour Workshop

July 13-15, 2010-Central Ohio Energy Sources Tour

Explore Ohio energy sites first-hand and learn how to incorporate Ohio Energy Project (OEP) materials into classroom curricula.

Detailed Description

Dates:  July 13-15, 2010 starting from Columbus

Sponsors:  AEP Ohio, Ohio Fuel Cell Corridor, Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Ohio Propane Education and Research Council, Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation, Honda of America

Course Description:  Teachers will spend three days visiting Ohio energy sites demonstrating various energy sources, electricity generation, alternative energy and energy conservation.  Participants will receive a free kit of curriculum, equipment and materials to incorporate energy education into their classroom.

Who:  Ohio science teachers grades 5-12

Credits:  25 contact hours for CEU credit.  Graduate credit (at the participant’s expense) will be available.  (TBA on how many hours and from which university.) 

When:  Sessions approximately 8 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.  Food and lodging are included with the program.

Where:  Energy sites around Central Ohio including:  coal burning power plant, fuel cell technology company, solar energy site, energy research labs at the Ohio State University

Workshop Project:  Participants document how they will use the knowledge gained from the tour to teach others about energy.

Cost:  $100 deposit payable to “Ohio Energy Project” upon acceptance.  The full deposit will be refunded at the completion of the Energy Sources Tour.

Class Size:  30-35 teachers

Lodging:  Food, lodging, charter bus transportation and materials during the tour are available to eligible participants.

Application Deadline:  The registration application will be posted on the Ohio Energy Project website, www.ohioenergy.org , on February 15, 2010.  Applications will be accepted until March 15, 2010.

Where: 

Northwest Ohio Energy Blitz-renewable energy sites including wind farm, solar panel manufacturing facility, ethanol plant

Southeast Ohio Energy Blitz-Ohio University research facilities including hydrogen and green fuels lab, coal surface mine

Workshop Project:  Participants document how they will use the knowledge gained from the tour to teach others about energy.

Cost:  $50 deposit payable to “Ohio Energy Project” upon acceptance.  The full deposit will be refunded at the completion of the Energy Sources Blitz.
